# 5-Axis CNC Milled 6061/6063 Aluminum Machined Blocks

Category: Custom Metal Knobs
URL: https://www.machined-parts-factory.com/products/custom-metal-knobs/5-axis-cnc-milled-6061-6063-aluminum-machined-blocks/

These are 5-axis CNC milled aluminum blocks in 6061 and 6063, such as pneumatic manifolds, mounting blocks, knob and switch bodies, sensor blocks and fixture bases. Five-axis machining reaches holes and features on several faces in one setup. The parts are painted, anodized or left as machined, and are made for equipment builders needing accurate solid blocks.

- Five faces machined in one fixture
- Cross-drilled ports meeting accurately inside
- Internal burrs removed to protect valves
- 6061-T6 for strength, 6063 for cosmetic anodize

## How we make it
Blocks are machined from saw-cut aluminum bar or plate, squared on the first operation, and then held on a fixture that exposes five faces to the spindle. Cross-drilled ports in manifolds are drilled from several directions to meet accurately inside the block. Deburring of internal intersections is done carefully, since burrs inside a manifold can break off and damage valves.

6061-T6 is stronger and preferred for manifolds and load-bearing blocks. 6063 is softer but anodizes more evenly, making it a good choice for cosmetic parts like knob bodies or visible housings. Painting or powder coating gives custom colors with good coverage, while clear anodizing protects without changing appearance. Hard anodizing improves wear resistance on sliding faces.

Port positions, intersections and thread sizes are verified with CMM and thread gauges, and port intersections are inspected for burrs. Flatness of mounting faces is checked, and critical dimensions are inspected on every part before shipment. Typical products include pneumatic and hydraulic manifolds, valve mounting blocks, sensor housings, knob and switch bodies, and fixture blocks for automation equipment.

## FAQ
### Why machine manifolds from solid aluminum instead of casting?
Machining from 6061-T6 plate or bar avoids the internal porosity that cast blocks can have, so pressurized ports are far less likely to leak. It also needs no tooling, which suits prototypes and low volumes. Casting becomes attractive only at higher volumes with stable designs.

### How do you remove burrs inside cross-drilled holes?
We use back-deburring tools, brushes and controlled machining strategies at hole intersections, then inspect with lights or borescopes where needed. For critical hydraulics, we add cross-hole chamfers in the program so intersections are easier to deburr and inspect.

### How do I get a quote for 5-axis cnc milled 6061/6063 aluminum machined blocks?
Send a 3D model (STEP or IGES) and a 2D drawing with tolerances, material, finish and quantity through the quote form or by email. An engineer replies within 24 hours on business days with price, lead time and any DFM suggestions.
