# CNC Machined POM, Nylon and PTFE Engineering Plastic Parts

Category: Precision CNC Machined Parts
URL: https://www.machined-parts-factory.com/products/precision-cnc-machined-parts/cnc-machined-pom-nylon-and-ptfe-engineering-plastic-parts/

These are custom engineering plastic parts milled and turned from POM (Delrin), Nylon, HDPE, UHMW, PTFE, ABS, PC and acrylic stock. Without a mold, gears, guides, insulators and wear pads can be machined to drawing with typical tolerances of ±0.05 mm. They are for product and machine designers who need low-friction or electrically insulating parts in prototype or low-volume quantities.

- POM, Nylon, PTFE, UHMW, ABS, PC and acrylic
- No mold cost for prototypes or short runs
- Clear PC and acrylic polished to transparency
- Measured at controlled temperature for stable results

## How we make it
Plastics move under cutting heat and clamping pressure, so we use sharp, polished-flute cutters, high spindle speeds and light finishing passes with air or mist cooling. Parts are held in soft jaws or vacuum fixtures to avoid distortion. For thin or long parts we rough, let the stock relax, then finish. Edges are deburred by hand because plastic burrs are easy to miss and can foul sliding fits.

POM is the first choice for precise gears, bushings and snap features: it is stiff, dimensionally stable and machines cleanly. Nylon is tougher but absorbs moisture and grows slightly. PTFE has the lowest friction and best chemical resistance but is soft and creeps under load, so hold tolerances looser. HDPE and UHMW suit wear strips; PC and acrylic are used for clear covers and can be vapor or flame polished.

Dimensions are measured at controlled room temperature, since plastics expand roughly ten times more than steel. Critical sizes are 100% inspected before shipment with calipers, pin gauges and, where needed, CMM. Common applications include food-safe conveyor guides, food-equipment wear parts, electrical insulators, pump seals, fixture pads and transparent machine guards.

## FAQ
### What tolerance can you hold on machined plastic parts?
On stable plastics such as POM and PEEK, we usually hold ±0.05 mm and tighter on small critical features. Softer or moisture-absorbing grades like PTFE, HDPE and Nylon move more, so we recommend ±0.1 mm on larger dimensions. We measure at controlled room temperature to keep results repeatable.

### When should I machine plastic instead of injection molding it?
Machining is usually cheaper below a few hundred to a few thousand pieces, because there is no mold to pay for and design changes cost nothing. It also handles thick sections and materials like PTFE that are hard to mold. Molding wins at higher volumes, when per-part cost dominates.

### How do I get a quote for cnc machined pom, nylon and ptfe engineering plastic parts?
Send a 3D model (STEP or IGES) and a 2D drawing with tolerances, material, finish and quantity through the quote form or by email. An engineer replies within 24 hours on business days with price, lead time and any DFM suggestions.
