CNC Machined Aluminum Single-Sided Motorcycle Swingarm
This is a single-sided swingarm for touring and custom motorcycles, machined on 5-axis CNC centers from billet or forged 6061-T6 or 7075-T6 aluminum. The pivot bores, axle housing and brake caliper mounts are finished in controlled setups so the wheel tracks true. It is aimed at custom builders and aftermarket brands making prototypes or small production runs.

Manufacturing
How we make this part
Process, material options and inspection for cnc machined aluminum single-sided motorcycle swingarm.
A single-sided swingarm carries the whole rear wheel load on one side, so stiffness and bore alignment drive the machining plan. We rough the arm from a solid block or a forging, leave stock for stress relief, and then finish the pivot bores, eccentric axle housing and mounting pads in a single 5-axis setup. Holding those features together keeps alignment errors from stacking between operations.
7075-T6 offers higher yield strength than 6061-T6, which helps keep wall sections slim, but it is harder to weld and slightly less corrosion resistant, so it is usually anodized. 6061-T6 is easier to repair and accepts welded brackets if needed. Finishes include bead blasting followed by black or clear Type II anodizing, Type III hard anodizing for bearing seats, or powder coat for show bikes.
Pivot and axle bores are measured on a CMM for diameter, roundness and parallelism, as these define how the rear wheel tracks. Thread gauges verify caliper and chain-adjuster holes. A first article is fully inspected before any batch, and dimensional reports can ship with the parts. Typical buyers are custom touring builds, café racer conversions and aftermarket brands validating a new rear-end design.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Should a swingarm be machined from billet or a forging?
For one-offs and prototypes, billet is faster because no forging die is needed. For production runs, a forged blank gives better grain flow and uses less material, which improves fatigue life. We can start with billet for validation and move to forged blanks once the design is frozen.
How do you keep the pivot and axle bores aligned?
We finish both bores and the main mounting faces in one 5-axis setup after rough machining and stress relief, so no re-clamping error is introduced. Bore positions and parallelism are then checked on a CMM, and the measured values are included in the inspection report.
How do I get a quote for cnc machined aluminum single-sided motorcycle swingarm?
Send a 3D model (STEP or IGES) and a 2D drawing with tolerances, material, finish and quantity through the quote form or by email. An engineer replies within 24 hours on business days with price, lead time and any DFM suggestions.
