CNC Turned Stainless Steel and Brass Threaded Standoffs

These are custom threaded standoffs, spacers and posts turned on CNC lathes from stainless steel, brass or aluminum. Male-female, female-female and male-male versions are made in hex or round bar to any length, with threads gauged to class. They are for electronics, panel and machine builders who need non-standard lengths, threads or finishes not found in catalogs.

Manufacturing

How we make this part

Process, material options and inspection for cnc turned stainless steel and brass threaded standoffs.

Standoffs are cut from hex or round bar on CNC lathes with bar feeders, which keeps unit cost low even at modest quantities. Internal threads are tapped or thread-milled; external threads are single-point cut or rolled. The faces are turned square to the thread axis so stacked boards sit parallel. Lengths are held to ±0.05 mm, tighter if your stack height is critical.

Brass is the traditional choice for PCB standoffs because it machines quickly and can be nickel plated for conductivity and corrosion resistance. Stainless 303 or 304 is stronger and suits outdoor equipment and high-vibration mounts. Aluminum keeps weight down and can be anodized for color coding. Anodized or powder-coated standoffs are insulating; specify plating if you need an electrical ground path.

Threads are checked with go/no-go gauges, lengths with height gauges and hex sizes with calipers. Critical features are inspected on every part, and samples from each lot are tested for thread engagement. Typical uses include multi-layer PCB stacks, control panel spacing, display mounting, drone stack spacers and machine guard posts.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can you make standoffs in non-standard lengths?

Yes. Because standoffs are turned from bar, any length is a program change, not a tooling change. Give us the thread size, style, hex or round width, overall length and material, and we can quote one-off samples or production quantities.

Do brass standoffs conduct electricity to the chassis?

Bare or nickel-plated brass standoffs conduct and are often used as ground paths. If you need insulation, specify anodized aluminum, plastic washers or nylon standoffs instead. Note that oxidized bare brass can raise contact resistance over time, which plating prevents.

How do I get a quote for cnc turned stainless steel and brass threaded standoffs?

Send a 3D model (STEP or IGES) and a 2D drawing with tolerances, material, finish and quantity through the quote form or by email. An engineer replies within 24 hours on business days with price, lead time and any DFM suggestions.
