CNC Lathe Turned Aluminum Pulleys and Rollers
These are custom pulleys, idlers and conveyor rollers turned on CNC lathes from 6061 aluminum or stainless steel. Belt grooves, bearing bores, hubs, keyways and set-screw holes are machined to drawing with 0.01–0.05 mm tolerance on critical features, then anodized, polished or powder coated. They are for automation, conveyor and 3D-printer builders needing non-catalog drive parts.

Manufacturing
How we make this part
Process, material options and inspection for cnc lathe turned aluminum pulleys and rollers.
Pulley blanks are turned so the bearing bore, groove profile and outside diameter share one axis, which keeps runout low and belts tracking straight. V-groove, flat-belt and round-belt profiles are turned with form or profiling tools; timing-pulley teeth are hobbed or milled. Keyways are broached and set-screw holes drilled and tapped on the hub. Larger rollers are machined from tube to save material and weight.
Aluminum 6061 gives low rotating inertia and good corrosion resistance once anodized; hard anodize improves groove wear life against belts. Stainless 304 is used for food-grade or washdown conveyors. Polished surfaces reduce belt and product friction, while powder coating suits non-contact areas. For high-load drives, steel pulleys may be required; we can advise when aluminum is marginal.
Runout is checked on a test arbor with a dial indicator, bores with pin or bore gauges, and groove geometry on an optical comparator at first article. Pulleys can be balanced for high-speed use on request. Typical applications include timing-belt drives, conveyor idlers, cable guide pulleys, film handling rollers and printer axes.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is aluminum strong enough for a timing pulley?
For most light and medium-duty automation, printer and conveyor drives, anodized 6061 or 7075 aluminum pulleys perform well and reduce inertia. For high torque, shock loads or very small tooth counts under heavy belt tension, steel pulleys last longer. Share the load and speed for a recommendation.
Can you machine a pulley to fit my existing belt?
Yes. Provide the belt type and pitch (for example HTD 5M or GT2), width, tooth count and bore requirements. We will machine the tooth profile accordingly and verify the fit with a sample belt at first article if you supply one.
How do I get a quote for cnc lathe turned aluminum pulleys and rollers?
Send a 3D model (STEP or IGES) and a 2D drawing with tolerances, material, finish and quantity through the quote form or by email. An engineer replies within 24 hours on business days with price, lead time and any DFM suggestions.
