Rapid Prototype CNC Machined Brass and Copper Parts

This is a rapid prototyping service for brass and copper parts, with aluminum and steel also available, machined on 3-, 4- and 5-axis CNC equipment. Prototypes can be anodized, polished, plated or painted to match the intended production finish, and critical features are held at 0.01–0.05 mm. It suits R&D teams validating conductive, thermal or decorative metal parts before committing to tooling.

Manufacturing

How we make this part

Process, material options and inspection for rapid prototype cnc machined brass and copper parts.

Prototype orders are reviewed for manufacturability as soon as the drawing arrives; we point out features that would be slow or risky to machine and suggest small changes. Brass parts usually run on lathes or turn-mill machines, while copper heat spreaders, busbars and electrodes go to milling centers. Programming focuses on getting a correct first part rather than optimizing cycle time.

Brass machines quickly and suits threaded, decorative and fluid-handling prototypes. Copper is chosen when electrical or thermal conductivity is the test variable; C110-type copper is soft and gummy, so it costs more to machine cleanly. Plating, polishing and painting can replicate production appearance. If the final part will be die cast or stamped, tell us so we can mimic that geometry for representative testing.

Each prototype receives first-article inspection, and every critical dimension is checked before shipment. Dimensional reports are available to support design reviews. Typical lead time for prototypes is about 3–7 working days. Common uses are battery busbar and terminal trials, heat-sink and cold-plate prototypes, decorative hardware samples and fluid fitting tests.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why is copper more expensive to machine than brass?

Pure copper is soft and gummy, so it tends to smear and form burrs. It needs sharp tools, slower feeds and extra deburring to achieve a clean finish. Brass breaks chips cleanly and runs much faster. If conductivity requirements allow, brass or a copper alloy can reduce cost.

Can prototypes have the same finish as production parts?

Yes. We can apply nickel, chrome or tin plating, polishing, painting or anodizing so prototypes look and behave like production parts. This is useful for customer samples, corrosion testing and assembly trials. Mention any finish specification on the drawing.

How do I get a quote for rapid prototype cnc machined brass and copper parts?

Send a 3D model (STEP or IGES) and a 2D drawing with tolerances, material, finish and quantity through the quote form or by email. An engineer replies within 24 hours on business days with price, lead time and any DFM suggestions.
