Swiss-Type Turned 303 Stainless Steel Bushings and Spacers
These are small-diameter stainless steel bushings, spacers, sleeves and pins produced on Swiss-type style CNC lathes, mostly from 303 and 304 bar. The guide-bushing setup supports the bar right at the tool, so long, thin parts keep tight diameter and straightness. They are aimed at electronics, medical device and instrument makers who need small precision turned parts in volume.

Manufacturing
How we make this part
Process, material options and inspection for swiss-type turned 303 stainless steel bushings and spacers.
On a Swiss-type style lathe the headstock moves the bar through a guide bushing while tools cut close to the support point. This limits deflection on parts with high length-to-diameter ratios. Front and back operations, including cross drilling, slotting and threading, are completed before the part drops, so no second operation is usually needed.
303 stainless contains added sulfur that breaks chips cleanly, making it the most economical stainless for high-volume turning; corrosion resistance is lower than 304. 304 suits parts exposed to moisture, and 316 is used for medical and marine environments. Parts are cleaned, deburred and passivated; polishing or tumbling is available for cosmetic spacers.
Diameters are checked with micrometers and laser or air gauging as needed, and lengths with height gauges. Critical dimensions are inspected before shipping, and parts are packed to prevent damage to fine edges. Typical uses include electronic standoffs, shaft sleeves, bearing spacers, sensor housings, instrument pins and small connector bodies.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What parts are best suited to Swiss-type turning?
Small, long or slender round parts, typically under about 20–32 mm in diameter, with several features such as cross holes, threads and grooves. Pins, bushings, connector bodies and medical components are typical. Large or short simple parts are often cheaper on a conventional CNC lathe.
Is 303 stainless acceptable for my bushing?
If the bushing stays dry or indoors and is not welded, 303 is usually fine and reduces machining cost. For parts exposed to moisture, salt, cleaning chemicals or body contact, choose 304 or 316. We can quote both grades so you can compare.
How do I get a quote for swiss-type turned 303 stainless steel bushings and spacers?
Send a 3D model (STEP or IGES) and a 2D drawing with tolerances, material, finish and quantity through the quote form or by email. An engineer replies within 24 hours on business days with price, lead time and any DFM suggestions.
