Injection Molds & Plastic Parts

Precision Plastic Injection Mold and Aluminum Mold Making

This service designs and builds plastic injection molds in tool steel or aluminum, with single or multiple cavities. Mold cores and cavities are CNC milled and EDM machined, with critical features held down to about 0.005 mm. Mold design support is available, and typical mold lead time is around 15 days for simpler tools. It suits product teams moving from prototypes to molded plastic parts.

Manufacturing

How we make this part

Process, material options and inspection for precision plastic injection mold and aluminum mold making.

Mold making starts with a design-for-molding review: draft angles, wall thickness, gate location and ejection. Cores and cavities are then rough and finish machined on CNC mills, with sharp corners and deep ribs produced by EDM. Cooling channels are drilled to balance temperatures, and the mold is assembled, fitted and test shot before samples are approved.

Aluminum molds are quick to machine and cool fast, making them good for prototypes and short runs, but they wear sooner than steel. Pre-hardened steels such as P20 suit medium runs, while hardened steels such as H13 or S136 handle long runs and abrasive or glass-filled plastics. Mold surfaces can be polished, textured or left machined depending on the part's appearance.

Core and cavity dimensions are checked on CMM, and first shots are measured against the part drawing. Mold adjustments are made until samples pass, then a sample report is provided along with the approved sample parts for your own testing. Typical uses include molds for consumer housings, automotive clips, medical device components, electronic enclosures and household product parts.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose an aluminum or steel injection mold?

Choose aluminum for prototypes and short runs, as it is faster and cheaper to make. Choose steel for medium and long runs, abrasive plastics or tight cosmetic requirements, because it lasts much longer. We can recommend a mold material based on your expected volume.

What files do I need for a mold quote?

Send a 3D part file in STEP or IGES, the plastic material, expected annual volume, surface finish and any cosmetic requirements. A 2D drawing with critical tolerances helps. We review moldability and suggest changes before quoting.

How do I get a quote for precision plastic injection mold and aluminum mold making?

Send a 3D model (STEP or IGES) and a 2D drawing with tolerances, material, finish and quantity through the quote form or by email. An engineer replies within 24 hours on business days with price, lead time and any DFM suggestions.
