Knurled Aluminum Mixer and Guitar Pedal Control Knob
This is a CNC turned aluminum control knob for audio mixers, guitar effects pedals and studio gear. It has a knurled grip, a precise bore held to about ±0.01 mm for a consistent push-on or set-screw fit, colored anodizing and an engraved indicator. It is made for audio equipment manufacturers and pedal builders who want uniform metal knobs in small or medium batches.

How we make this part
Process, material options and inspection for knurled aluminum mixer and guitar pedal control knob.
Mixers use many identical knobs side by side, so consistency between parts matters as much as the design itself. We turn knobs on CNC lathes with the same tool setup for the whole batch, holding bore tolerance near ±0.01 mm. Skirt height is controlled so knobs sit evenly above the panel. The indicator line or dot is engraved or filled with paint after finishing.
Aluminum 6061 keeps knobs light and allows a wide color range for function coding: red for gain, blue for EQ, and so on. Bead blasting before anodizing gives a matte finish that reduces glare under stage lighting. Clear anodized silver knobs with black-filled indicators are a classic look. Brass versions add weight for premium pedals.
Bore size is checked on samples from each batch, and every knob is inspected for color match, knurl quality and indicator clarity. Skirt height is measured to keep a level row on the panel. Typical uses include mixing consoles, guitar and bass pedals, synthesizers, DJ mixers, preamps and audio test equipment.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do you keep knob colors consistent across a mixer batch?
We anodize the whole batch from the same aluminum lot in one tank run and compare every knob with an approved master sample. Small shade differences can occur between alloy lots, so for large panels we recommend ordering all knobs of one color together.
Can indicator lines be filled with color?
Yes. After engraving, the indicator line can be filled with white, black or colored paint for high visibility. Alternatively, laser engraving through anodize gives a bright silver line without paint. Paint fill is more visible in dark stage environments.
