CNC Turned Brass Inserts for Camera and Aircraft Parts
These are CNC turned brass and steel inserts and small spare parts for digital cameras, model aircraft and drones, such as threaded molding inserts, tripod mount bushings, hinge pins and lens mount screws. Inserts are knurled or grooved to anchor in plastic housings. They are made for camera accessory, RC model and drone makers needing strong threads in molded parts.

How we make this part
Process, material options and inspection for cnc turned brass inserts for camera and aircraft parts.
Brass molding inserts are turned from bar on CNC lathes, with internal threads tapped or thread-milled and external diamond or straight knurls and grooves that lock into plastic. Some are molded in place during injection molding; others are heat-staked or pressed into a finished part. The insert's outer dimensions must match the boss design, so we review your molding drawing alongside the insert drawing.
Brass is the standard insert material because it machines easily, resists corrosion and conducts heat evenly when heat-staking. Steel inserts are stronger for high-torque threads, such as tripod mounts, and are zinc or nickel plated. Stainless steel suits outdoor or marine equipment. Plating can also improve the appearance of visible inserts such as a 1/4"-20 camera mount.
Internal threads are checked with go/no-go gauges, knurl diameter is measured, and overall length is controlled to match the boss depth. Critical dimensions are inspected on every batch. Typical uses include camera body tripod mounts, battery door hinge pins, RC aircraft servo mounts, drone frame inserts and threaded bushings in plastic enclosures.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Should I mold inserts in or heat-stake them after molding?
Molding inserts in gives the strongest hold but adds cycle time and needs inserts loaded in the mold. Heat-staking or pressing after molding is faster and more flexible, but pull-out strength is slightly lower. The right choice depends on thread torque and production volume.
Why are camera tripod mounts often steel instead of brass?
Tripod mounts carry the whole camera weight and are tightened often, so steel gives better thread wear resistance and strength. Brass works for light cameras and accessories. We can produce both and suggest the better option for your load.
