5-Axis CNC Machined Alloy Steel Mechanical Parts
These are 5-axis CNC machined mechanical parts in alloy steel, stainless steel and aluminum, such as gearbox housings, levers, cams, yokes and tooling blocks. Steel parts can be heat treated and finish-machined to restore accuracy. They are intended for machine designers and maintenance teams who need durable custom parts that are difficult to produce on 3-axis equipment.

How we make this part
Process, material options and inspection for 5-axis cnc machined alloy steel mechanical parts.
Five-axis machining shortens the route for parts with features on several faces. Instead of four or five setups, a yoke or lever can be finished in one or two, reducing cumulative positioning error. For heat-treated steel parts, we rough machine first, leave a finishing allowance, send the part for hardening, and then finish the critical bores and faces so distortion from heat treatment is removed.
4140 alloy steel, supplied pre-hardened around 28–32 HRC or through-hardened after machining, gives a good balance of toughness and strength. 1045 carbon steel is cheaper and can be induction hardened locally. 17-4PH stainless combines hardness with corrosion resistance. Black oxide is a thin, low-cost finish for steel; zinc or nickel plating provides better rust protection.
Critical bores, flatness and hole positions are measured on a CMM after finishing, and heat-treatment reports with hardness values are supplied when hardening is specified. Material and heat treatment certificates are available on request. Typical parts include gearbox and pump housings, linkage levers, cam plates, clevis yokes, indexing blocks and replacement components for packaging and assembly machines.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do you machine parts before or after heat treatment?
Usually both. We rough machine with extra stock, harden the part, then finish machine critical bores and faces to remove distortion. For pre-hardened 4140 at around 30 HRC, we can often machine complete in one sequence, which is faster for moderate strength requirements.
What is the advantage of 5-axis machining for steel parts?
5-axis machining reaches several faces in one setup, so hole positions on different sides relate accurately to each other. It also allows shorter tools at better angles, which improves surface finish and reduces chatter in tough steels. Fewer setups also mean shorter lead times.
How do I get a quote for 5-axis cnc machined alloy steel mechanical parts?
Send a 3D model (STEP or IGES) and a 2D drawing with tolerances, material, finish and quantity through the quote form or by email. An engineer replies within 24 hours on business days with price, lead time and any DFM suggestions.
