CNC Machined Aluminum Car Audio Volume Control Knob
These are CNC machined aluminum volume and control knobs for car audio systems, amplifiers, hi-fi equipment and DJ gear. Each knob is turned from solid aluminum, with knurled or ribbed grips, diamond-cut or brushed faces and a bore sized for a D-shaft or knurled potentiometer shaft. They suit audio brands that want a premium tactile feel and consistent appearance.

How we make this part
Process, material options and inspection for cnc machined aluminum car audio volume control knob.
Knobs are turned on CNC lathes from 6061 or 6063 aluminum bar. The grip surface is knurled or milled with fine ribs, and the front face can be diamond turned for a bright, mirror-like ring. The shaft bore is machined to match the potentiometer or encoder shaft, often with a set screw hole or spring insert. Indicator lines are laser engraved.
6063 gives the brightest diamond-cut and anodized finish, while 6061 offers more strength. Brass and copper knobs feel heavier and can be plated. Anodizing in silver, black or custom colors protects the surface; diamond-cut faces are often clear anodized after cutting. A heavier knob feels smoother because of inertia, so material choice affects feel.
Bore fit is tested on the actual potentiometer or encoder, and cosmetic finish is inspected for scratches and uniformity. Indicator alignment is checked with the shaft flat. Typical products include car head-unit knobs, amplifier gain knobs, hi-fi volume knobs, DJ mixer knobs, synthesizer knobs and studio equipment controls, from single design samples to matched production sets.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is a diamond-cut knob finish?
Diamond cutting uses a single-crystal diamond tool to turn a very smooth, bright surface on aluminum, often on the knob's front face or edge. It is usually done after anodizing, leaving a bright metal ring against a colored body, then protected by clear anodizing or lacquer.
Can you make knobs for knurled potentiometer shafts?
Yes. Bores for knurled (splined) shafts are machined slightly undersize or with a split insert so the knob presses on firmly. For D-shafts, we machine a matching D-bore or add a set screw. Share the potentiometer part number or shaft drawing for fit testing.
