CNC Turned Custom Brass and Stainless Steel Screws
These are non-standard screws, bolts, thumb screws and shoulder screws turned on CNC lathes from brass, stainless steel or aluminum. Special head shapes, shoulder diameters, drive types and thread lengths are produced to drawing within ±0.01 mm on shoulders, then anodized, polished, powder coated or plated. They suit equipment designers who cannot find the fastener they need in catalogs.

Manufacturing
How we make this part
Process, material options and inspection for cnc turned custom brass and stainless steel screws.
Custom fasteners are turned from bar with the head, shank, shoulder and thread produced in one cycle. Drive recesses such as hex sockets are broached on the lathe, slots and cross holes are milled with live tooling, and knurled thumb heads are formed. Threads are single-point cut for short runs or rolled for higher strength and smoother flanks. Captive-screw undercuts and anti-loosening features can be added.
Brass screws are corrosion-resistant, non-sparking and conductive; they are often nickel plated for appearance. Stainless 304 and 316 offer strength and rust resistance; A2/A4 equivalent grades suit outdoor and marine use. Aluminum screws save weight and anodize in colors, though they are weaker and should not replace steel in high-load joints. Thread-locking patches can be applied after finishing.
Threads are checked with ring gauges, shoulder diameters with micrometers, and head heights with height gauges. Critical features are 100% inspected, and sample screws are torque-tested in mating parts when requested. Typical uses include captive panel screws, decorative brass screws, instrument shoulder screws, drone hardware and thumb screws for tool-free access.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order for custom screws?
We accept orders from one piece for prototypes, which is useful for testing a special screw design. Unit cost drops substantially at higher quantities because setup is shared across more parts. Request quotes at several quantity breaks to see the difference.
Are rolled threads better than cut threads?
Rolled threads are formed by displacing metal rather than cutting it, so grain flow follows the thread profile. This gives better fatigue strength and a smoother surface. Cut threads are more flexible for short runs, special forms and harder materials. Both meet standard gauge classes.
How do I get a quote for cnc turned custom brass and stainless steel screws?
Send a 3D model (STEP or IGES) and a 2D drawing with tolerances, material, finish and quantity through the quote form or by email. An engineer replies within 24 hours on business days with price, lead time and any DFM suggestions.
