CNC Turned Stainless Steel Shaft Sleeves and Bushings

These are shaft sleeves, wear sleeves, bearing bushings and spacer tubes turned on CNC lathes from stainless steel, with brass, copper and aluminum alloy alternatives. Bores and outside diameters are held down to ±0.01 mm for press and slip fits. They suit pump, gearbox and machinery builders protecting shafts from seal wear or adding bearing surfaces in housings.

Manufacturing

How we make this part

Process, material options and inspection for cnc turned stainless steel shaft sleeves and bushings.

Sleeves must be concentric and round, so the bore and outside diameter are finished in one chucking where possible, or the bore is finished first and the OD turned on a precision mandrel. Thin-walled sleeves are clamped with collet or pie jaws to avoid distortion. Oil grooves and lubrication holes are cut with live tooling, and a lead-in chamfer is added for press fitting.

304 and 316 stainless resist corrosion and wear under seals, which makes them common for pump shaft sleeves; 17-4PH heat treated is harder for abrasive service. Brass and bronze bushings run against steel shafts with good sliding properties. Copper is chosen for thermal or electrical contact. Polished or ground sleeve surfaces extend seal life significantly compared with as-turned finishes.

Bores and ODs are measured with bore gauges and micrometers, concentricity checked on mandrels, and surface roughness on seal-running faces. Critical dimensions receive 100% inspection. Typical uses include pump shaft sleeves, gearbox spacers, mixer shaft wear sleeves, bushings for pivots and bearing spacer tubes. Material certificates are available on request, and repeat batches are run from the approved program for consistent fits.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why fit a stainless sleeve on a pump shaft?

Seals wear a groove into the shaft over time. A replaceable stainless sleeve takes that wear instead, so maintenance means changing a low-cost sleeve rather than the whole shaft. Hard or polished sleeves also extend seal life.

What fit should a shaft sleeve have?

Sleeves are usually installed with a light press or locational fit on the shaft, sealed with an O-ring or adhesive where leakage matters. The exact fit depends on shaft size, material and temperature. Share the shaft details and we will suggest dimensions.

How do I get a quote for cnc turned stainless steel shaft sleeves and bushings?

Send a 3D model (STEP or IGES) and a 2D drawing with tolerances, material, finish and quantity through the quote form or by email. An engineer replies within 24 hours on business days with price, lead time and any DFM suggestions.
