Manufacturing

How we make this part

Process, material options and inspection for powder-coated cnc turned stainless and aluminum parts.

Powder coating is applied as a dry powder and cured in an oven, forming a coating typically around 60–120 µm thick. Because it is much thicker than anodizing, threads, bores and fits are masked before coating or machined with allowance. We plan masking on the drawing so functional surfaces stay bare. Edges are rounded slightly before coating to improve coverage on corners.

Aluminum takes powder coating well after pretreatment and is light. Stainless steel can be powder coated for color, although many stainless parts are polished or passivated instead to show the metal. Plating adds a thin metallic layer, and anodizing grows an integral oxide on aluminum. Powder coating provides strong color choice and impact resistance at a moderate cost.

Coating thickness and adhesion are checked, masked areas are inspected, and critical dimensions are measured on every part. Color is matched to RAL references or approved samples, and finished parts are packed with protection so the coating is not chipped in transit. Typical uses include equipment handles, outdoor brackets, lighting housings, appliance covers, rollers and machine guards.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is powder coating or anodizing better for aluminum parts?

Powder coating gives thick, impact-resistant color and hides minor surface marks, good for outdoor and industrial parts. Anodizing is thinner, keeps the metal look and holds tighter tolerances, better for precision or cosmetic parts. The choice depends on durability, appearance and fit requirements.

Can stainless steel be powder coated?

Yes. After proper cleaning and pretreatment, stainless steel accepts powder coating well. It is used when color is needed. If corrosion resistance is the main goal, passivated or polished stainless without coating is often sufficient.

How do I get a quote for powder-coated cnc turned stainless and aluminum parts?

Send a 3D model (STEP or IGES) and a 2D drawing with tolerances, material, finish and quantity through the quote form or by email. An engineer replies within 24 hours on business days with price, lead time and any DFM suggestions.
