CNC Machined Aluminum and Stainless Steel Front Panels
These are CNC machined front panels for electronics, instruments and control equipment, with cutouts for displays, switches and connectors, countersunk mounting holes and engraved or printed legends. They are made from aluminum or stainless steel plate and finished by anodizing, brushing or painting. They suit equipment makers that need accurate, durable panels in prototype or production quantities.

How we make this part
Process, material options and inspection for cnc machined aluminum and stainless steel front panels.
Panels are milled from flat plate, typically 2–6 mm thick, with the stock face-milled or flattened first so cutouts sit square. Rectangular display windows, round connector holes and D-cut switch holes are milled with small end mills, leaving corner radii matching the tool. Countersinks and threaded studs or PEM-style fasteners are added for mounting, and edges are chamfered.
Aluminum 5052 or 6061 is light and anodizes well; brushed silver or black anodize with laser-engraved legends is a durable, common combination, because the marking is in the surface rather than on top. 304 stainless panels suit harsh environments and can be brushed. For multi-color graphics, painting followed by screen printing or UV printing is an option.
Cutout sizes and positions are checked against the components they must fit, and panel flatness is measured. Engraving and printing are verified for alignment and legibility, and every panel is inspected for scratches before protective film is applied. Typical uses include test instruments, audio equipment, industrial control panels, 19-inch rack panels, power supplies and medical device front covers.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is the best way to mark legends on a front panel?
For aluminum, anodize and then laser engrave the legends; the marking is in the surface and will not rub off. For multi-color graphics, painting plus screen or UV printing is better. Stainless steel can be laser marked directly in dark contrast.
Can you machine square corners on panel cutouts?
Milled internal corners always have a radius equal to the cutter, commonly 0.5–1.5 mm on panels. If a component needs a sharp corner, we can add small relief notches, or use laser cutting or wire EDM. Tell us the component you are fitting and we will suggest the best option.
