Manufacturing

How we make this part

Process, material options and inspection for cnc machined metal switch knob for equipment & appliances.

Switch knobs often have a pointer, wings or a lever shape rather than a simple round body, so we combine turning and milling. The bore and base are turned, and the pointer, wings or grip shape are milled on 4- or 5-axis machines, often in one setup on a turn-mill center. Edges are radiused for comfort, and markings are engraved after finishing.

Aluminum alloy is light and anodizes in custom colors; brass adds weight and a premium feel; stainless steel resists harsh environments; titanium is very light, strong and corrosion resistant, often chosen for premium products despite higher cost. Brushing, anodizing, powder coating and plating are available, and color can match a product line.

Bore and thread fit are checked on every knob, pointer alignment with the bore flat is verified, and finish color is matched to an approved sample. Critical dimensions are inspected before shipment, and edges are checked for burrs by hand. Typical uses include rotary mode selectors, industrial switch handles, appliance program knobs, heater controls and lighting selectors.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is titanium worth using for a switch knob?

Titanium is very light, strong and corrosion resistant, with a distinctive gray color. It costs more and is slower to machine than aluminum or brass. It is worth it for premium products or harsh environments where its properties and appearance add value.

Can switch knobs be powder coated?

Yes. Powder coating gives a durable, colored finish with good grip. It is thicker than anodizing, so bores and fits are masked or sized accordingly. It works on aluminum, steel and brass, and colors can be matched to RAL or brand references.

How do I get a quote for cnc machined metal switch knob for equipment & appliances?

Send a 3D model (STEP or IGES) and a 2D drawing with tolerances, material, finish and quantity through the quote form or by email. An engineer replies within 24 hours on business days with price, lead time and any DFM suggestions.
