CNC Machined Solid Brass and Copper Control Knobs

These are solid brass and copper control knobs, CNC turned and milled for a heavy, premium feel on audio equipment, lighting dimmers, appliances and instruments. They are finished by polishing, brushing, plating or clear lacquer. Bores and set-screw threads are machined to fit standard shafts. They are made for brands that want metal knobs with real weight and a distinctive warm appearance.

How we make this part

Process, material options and inspection for cnc machined solid brass and copper control knobs.

Brass and copper are dense, so a knob of the same size is about three times heavier than aluminum, giving a smoother, damped turning feel. We turn knobs from round bar, adding knurls, grooves or a polished face. Copper is softer and stickier to machine than brass, so we use sharp tools and slower feeds to keep the surface clean before finishing.

Polished brass gives a bright gold tone; clear lacquer slows tarnishing. Unlacquered copper and brass develop a natural patina that some designers prefer. Nickel, chrome or black plating changes the color while keeping the weight. Brushed finishes hide fingerprints, and laser engraving marks scales without paint. Copper offers a distinctive rose color but tarnishes faster than brass.

Bore and thread fit are checked with gauges, plated or lacquered surfaces are inspected for defects, and finish color is compared to an approved sample. Every knob is checked before packing with protective wrap to prevent scratches. Typical uses include hi-fi amplifier knobs, lighting dimmers, kitchen appliance knobs, guitar amplifier controls and decorative instrument panels.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Will brass or copper knobs tarnish?

Yes, unless protected. Unlacquered brass and copper darken over time with handling and air exposure, forming a patina. A clear lacquer or plating keeps the original color much longer. Choose based on whether you want a stable or living finish.

Are solid brass knobs worth the extra cost?

For premium audio and appliances, many buyers feel yes: the extra weight gives a smoother feel and a sense of quality. The material and machining cost more than aluminum. For high-volume or lightweight products, aluminum remains the more economical choice.
